Do you want to move into a management position? Before you ask your boss about this promotion you should ask yourself some questions first. The fact that you are an excellent employee does not mean that you would do well in a management position. Management positions are very good for some people but not for everyone. Many people ask for promotions so they can be in a management position without actually knowing how much responsibility they take once they become supervisors.
It does not matter what profession you are in, if you get a management position you need a complete change of mindset. Once you become a supervisor you need to change your work focus. As a manager you have to support your employees as best as you can and make them successful without thinking about yourself. This is what an successful manager is all about.
You also have to know your employees well, what their strong sides are and what their weak dies are. You have to use this as best as you can and giving them the right tasks as the right time. Management requires a lot more work from your side. Other things you have to do is to keep a professional distance between you are your employees. You can not be the funny guy anymore you have to serious and straight. If not, your judgment may be questioned when it’s time to discipline employees or make decisions about promotions among your staff.
