No guys I am not talking about fishing that’s still okay but, I am talking about phising! You pronounce it same as you pronounce fishing but it is completely different and a growing problem all over the world.
A easy explanation of phishing would be unscrupulous persons attempt to defraud unsuspecting consumers by imitating legitimate businesses through email and fake websites.
Pishing can be done in many ways and it’s a dangerous business. Most hackers use mails for pishing. They send out for example 100.000 mails and say foe example “ebay has now free stuff to give away simply sign in and grab it while you can”. Under this text they put a link to a site that looks exactly like Ebay, and when you go to the site and sign in they will get you username and your Ebay password without you knowing anything. Pishing does not only happen with Ebay, it also happens with mail accounts, paypal, credot card companies, myspace and much more. It happensd to everything which requires a password and a username!
I got a few tips if you get your account pished.
1. Contact the company that your account was pished from and ask them to simply shut down your whole account, you must however provide them with proof like for example a copy of your passport so they know you are the real owner. Meanwhile you account will be on “hold” if it is Ebay, paypal or other credit card services.
2. File your complaint with the FTC using their ID Theft Affidavit available at the ftc.gov website.
3. Tell your local polices station about it if you lost money from credit card. Provide law enforcement with a copy of your FTC ID Theft complaint form and get a copy of their police report or report number.
If you follow these steps you will be safer but never safe.
